Canon EOS 400D
The 10-megapixel successor to the 350D, the 400D is considered an excellent yet still-affordable choice for photographers ready to graduate to a ‘proper’ DSLR. Now that it has been replaced by the Canon EOS 450D, you can still find a phenomenal bargain for the 400D.
A great entry-level digital SLR, the 10-megapixel 400D features a large screen, lightweight body, and plenty more to boast about: terrific resolution and color, PictureStyles for those who don’t want to post-process on a computer, an anti-dust system, and an innovative playback mode for those dealing with hundreds of shots on a CompactFlash card.

The Rebel XTi is “exceptional. The 2.5-inch LCD is a marked improvement over the previous version’s measly 1.8-inch display
A combination of class-leading low noise levels at high ISO sensitivities, great autofocus performance, good image quality and handling all make the EOS 400D worthy of serious consideration.
While the 400D is unquestionably a very good camera, with superb performance, an excellent control system and wide range of picture control options, and while it is a distinct improvement on the 350D, it doesn’t really stand out in comparison to any of the other entry-level 10MP DSLRs that are currently available.
While the 400D offers a good all round performance, it is no longer top of the class.
The trouble with the 400D is that, while it’s still a superb camera, it isn’t unequivocally better than the 350D. The removal of the secondary LCD and the need to set everything via the monitor is easy to see as a retrograde step, especially as the Nikon D80 has both the 2.5in LCD and a fantastically informative top-plate-mounted secondary LCD.
An excellent product and a great route into the world of digital SLR cameras. It’s also likely to give potential customers of Canon’s professional product range pause for thought.
If you don’t change lenses that often, don’t mind the smaller LCD, don’t need the slight bump in continuous-shooting speed and don’t need the higher resolution, then you don’t really need to pay extra for the Canon EOS 400D
The EOS 400D (Rebel XTi) turned out to be everything we expected it to be; a progressive upgrade to the already hugely successful EOS 350D (Rebel XT)
Thanks to its user-friendly ethos, the camera is as at home in the hands of novices as it is hanging around the neck of adventurous professionals who need a compact and reliable shooter
Make the world your playground with the EOS 400D. 10.1 Megapixels of superior CMOS resolution and Canon’s Integrated Cleaning System deliver the EOS hallmark of crisp, clean images, shot after shot.
