Introduced in June 2006, this pro model lacks the full frame sensor of the newer D3. In other respects, the D2Xs is exemplary: 12 megapixels, fast autofocus and burst mode — including a super-fast burst mode that takes 6 megapixel shots.
Accurate white balance and color rendition are also notable. Another improvement over the D2 is a larger, higher contrast screen.

The D2x pretty much deals with every issue that’s been brought up with previous Nikon DSLRs. Better-than-35mm resolution? Check. Improved noise handling? Still has noise, but improved, so check. Better color? Check. Better metering, AF, and white balance? Check. Better battery? Double-check. Improved handling? Check.
True to the pro tradition of SLR design, the Nikon D2Xs is big and heavy. A joint in my thumb was quickly complaining about the weight as I walked about town taking Gallery shots.
While the D2xs shares many features with its predecessor, the new model boasts an array of refinements that enhance performance and improve the user experience. Such features include, refined viewfinder performance; a new LCD with a 170-degree wide viewing angle; significantly increased battery life; and a wide range of firmware enhancements.
The D2Xs supports several GPS devices, Nikon’s i-TTL wireless flash system, and its WT-2/2A wireless transmitter. Nikon charges extra for its software for processing RAW images and controlling the camera wirelessly from a computer.

Before purchasing this camera I was not sure if it would be worth the spend - a giant leap of an upgrade from my very trusty D70. I got it mainly because of the 8 fps in crop mode for sport photography
he D2Xs is the most ROCKINIST (like that description ?) camera ever. It is so advanced, sharp as hell, a kadrillion ways to shoot, settings are endless, high speed crop, battery life lasts forever, up to 8 frames a second, attention getter for sure.
