Nikon D60

The D40/D40x’s replacement continues the tradition of those cameras for better and for worse with no substantial innovations. Excellent 10-megapixel image quality, compact and light body, very responsive, accurate metering, bright viewfinder, and excellent screen are the headlines.

The bad news is that just about all of this is found in the D40x, and so are the negatives: no autofocus with most F-mount lenses, no depth-of-field preview, no display on top of the body.

10 reviews for the Nikon D60

  1. The T3 review says:

Our niggles pale in the face of the one indisputable fact: At sub-£500, the Nikon D60 is an absolutely phenomenal deal.

  2. The Ken Rockwell review says:

The Nikon D60 is a “sucker” camera sold mostly to people who are not professional photographers, but who are impressed by meaningless megapixels. (…) The less expensive D40 is the same thing as the D60, but better

  3. The DP Review review says:

The most significant change [from the D40X] isn’t to the camera at all; it’s the move to an optically stabilized version of the kit lens.

  4. The Camera Labs review says:

A good, solid, 10-megapixel entry-level DSLR — Very easy to use — nothing truly groundbreaking.

  6. The Photography Blog review says:

Nikon D40x owners won’t be rushing out to upgrade, but the D60 is a compelling option for users of compact digital cameras looking to upgrade to a DSLR

  7. The E Photo zine review says:

For those of you with Nikon DSLRs looking to change cameras, buy for someone else or in need of a second body, the D60 is the direct replacement to the D40x and is identical to its predecessor externally

  8. The kenrock wel review says:

The D60 is less sensitive to light then the D40 (its default ISO is only ISO 100 compared to the D40’s default ISO of 200). Its less sensitive to light because the pixels have to be made smaller to cram more of them into the same-sized sensor.

  9. The DC Resource review says:

The D60 is an updated version of Nikon’s popular D40x entry-level D-SLR. The D60 ($749) retains most of the features that made the D40x a great camera. Those features include a 10 Megapixel CCD, super-fast performance, a 2.5″ LCD display, an easy-to-use interface, and lots more.

  10. The Steves digicams review says:

The Nikon D60 is a dSRL for the novice photographer. It is lightweight with elegantly simple controls yet it includes many advanced technologies from Nikon’s professional models.
