Olympus E-520
The big brother to the E-420, the Olympus E-520 shares many of its qualities. Shadow Adjustment Technology brings out detail from the darkest portions of your image. Face Detection assists focus in auto mode. A large, contrasty screen, the 2.5″ HyperCrystal, improves handily on the E-510. As on the E-420, Live View can preview your next shot with or without effects and adjustments.
Why select the E-520 over the E-420? Pros and demanding amateurs will enjoy the tougher build quality and image stabilization technology, which allows handheld shots to be taken at slower exposures.
The E-520 is a four-thirds camera. This means that its viewfinder and the resulting photos are squarer, like a traditional television screen, than the aspect ratio seen in 35mm and most digital photography. It accepts lenses from a number of manufacturers, including Olympus and Leica.

all a very impressive piece of kit worthy of its price.
This isn’t a major upgrade by any means and wouldn’t warrant a switch from the E-510, but if you’re looking for a feature packed midrange DSLR, the E-520 is worth considering. The improvements, particularly the new image stabilisation mode and autofocus accuracy of Live Modes show that these important technologies are still being perfected, and the latest versions on the E-520 are pretty much as good as they get at the moment.
If you’re shopping for your first DSLR though or upgrading from an older model, the E-520 makes a great choice. It may not feature 12 or 14 Megapixels, but still records a decent degree of detail and as our outdoor comparisons illustrate, you’d be hard pushed telling much difference between it and the Canon 450D / XSi.
Like the E-510 before it, it’s also fair to say that the E-520’s interface is “button rich.” As with its nearly identical predecessor, if the newest E runs the risk of sending novice shooters into a panic with the sheer number of controls, seasoned shooters will find the layout transparent and logical once the E-520’s surfaces are mapped to your fingers
The Olympus E-520 is a refreshed version of Olympus’s upper-entry-level camera, the E-510. As such it’s a slightly bulked-up E-420 with image stabilization, which makes it one of the most feature-packed and customizable cameras available for under £500/$800.
As you can see, the E-520 is more of an evolution of the E-510, rather than something radically different. Olympus has dropped the EVOLT moniker from their D-SLRs, as well.
The new 10 megapixel Olympus E-520 DSLR camera is an evolutionary upgrade to last year’s popular E-510 model. It boasts some notable advancements including wireless TTL flash control, Shadow Adjustment Technology, improved image processing, two extra scene modes, Face Detection and more convenient auto-focus options in Live View.
There isn’t much to be said about the appearance of the Olympus E-520. Except for the fact that the pictograms/symbols have received a different colour, which is fine considering that the former colour combination sometimes proved hard to read.
Olympus E-520 is considered as ticket to D-SLR world and its price speaks for itself. When you take this model into your hands you really got the feeling that you are holding a quality pro model that can accomplish a lot.
Like the recently-released E-420, the new Olympus E-520 is an update of a previous model and doesn’t introduce any radically new features or functions.
