Sigma SD14
The Sigma SD14 has a new body design that is smaller than its predecessors, the SD10 and SD9. Like the previous models, it uses a Foveon X3 direct image sensor. It has a Sigma SA lens mount, which means you can use the whole range of Sigma’s rather awesome lenses - all at a much lower price than Canon or Nikon’s lenses, but at roughly the same quality.
The SD14 may not be for everybody, but if you can live with its flaws, you might be able to get a proper bargain…

In terms of image noise, sharpness and general ease of use, it is a little lacking.

Unlike other DSLRs, which use the Bayer pattern sensor technology, “the Sigma D14 uses Foveon X3, which stacks them to eliminate any problems produced by having a lateral shift between color sensors.
The SD14 Digital SLR camera features four JPEG recording modes, a large and bright pentaprism viewfinder with 98% coverage, a built-in flash with a Guide Number of 11, 5-point AF system, a large 2.5” 150,000 pixel resolution LCD monitor as well as a new user friendly design.
As the model number would suggest, capture resolution is up from 10 to 14 megapixels, but there’s a lot more to the SD14 than a simple boost in image resolution.
Focus locks on a nearby object with a quiet beep and I press the shutter. Now if you have ever used the SD9/10 cameras, you, as I was, would be expecting a noisy clacking sound as the shutter operated.
